Dark Falls - Rules

This sim is largely freeform, but as with any large group, there must be some rules to be followed.

I. The Books

You MUST stay as close to the books as possible. If you can't read the books, then there are online references, and if all else fails, there's the GMs and others to ask. Please keep in mind, this game is not based on Anne Rice or Blade. If you need some references, goto

II. Characters

Every player is encouraged play at least one protagonist (good guy) and one antagonist (may not necessarily be bad, but on occasion has to oppose the good guys).

Each character MUST be submitted to the GMs and NOT changed from the limits you placed upon the character when you submitted it. If it's not on the character's bio, then the character cannot do it unless you bring it up with the GMs before changing it. This means that if you have something you don't want the rest of the world to know, you MUST tell the GMs before you start playing your character. If your character is the child of a god, holds the key to the universe (42!!!!) or is Superman in disguise, FSF Linds (me) and FSF Bastetovski (Andrea) both need to know AND APPROVE THE CHARACTER BEFORE JOINING so we don't accuse you of god-moding later!!!

III. Posting and Penalties for Not Posting

Each player must post once per week for each character he or she has on the roster.

On the outside, this means that if you play Tom, Dick, and Harpo, you have to write a post for Tom, a post for Dick, and a post for Harpo. Because I'm lenient, I count a JP (or Joint Post) as one post for each character that is in it. So if Harry and Sally are both in a post, Harry gets one point, and so does Sally.

This also means that if you write one post that has Tom, Dick, and Harpo all in it, I will count it as three posts. HOWEVER, that post had better be WORTH three posts, or I'll stop doing it. I will also count three posts for Tom as one for each, so if Dick and Harpo are tied up at the moment and Tom is real active, you won't be penalized.

If a player can't post in a given week and knows it ahead of time, (s)he can get ahold of one of us and do one of two things: 1) post an extra post for the week before, to be counted on the absentee week. 2) Gain PK(playerknowledge) information that will allow him/her to post for the next week, and give that post to one of the hosts to post on his/her behalf on the week of their absence.

If a player forgets to post in a given week, the player can make it up by doing two *extra* (total of 3) posts per roster character the next week. This will serve to make the attendance coordinator go back and mark the player as having posted for the missed week.

If a player has an unexpected absence for a true emergency reason (ie, sick*, car accident, death in family, whatever you and I agree is a good enough reason) the player may be marked as excused with no penalties. But still may make up the posts as listed above.

If a player is absent for any reason that is frivolous (I just didn't feel like writing this week.... I couldn't get into it.... I didn't have anything to write about....) and they don't make up their posts as listed above, (or if they simply don't get ahold of us) a set of penalties will go into effect.

    1. Miss 1 week's worth of posts: Verbal warning
    2. Miss 2 weeks' worth of posts: Chain-and-Cross-Wrapped Coffin/Silver Cage (2 month's Probation)
    3. Miss 3 weeks' worth of posts: Council's Notice/Lycan Oubliette (6 month's Probation)
    4. Miss 4 weeks' worth of posts: Order of Execution - (Expulsion from sim with no opportunity for return for six months.)

IV. Proper Conduct IC and OOC

In general, this sim should be manned mainly by adults, and being manned by adults should have no problems with proper conduct either in or out of character. However, it has been my experience in the two years that Dark Falls has been running that true adults are few and far between, and that if rules are not laid down for proper conduct there will be those that (a) god-mode, (b) whine [want some cheese with that??], (c) take everything said as a personal OOC insult, or (d) decide that they know what is best for another player's character. In the interest of saving both myself and Andrea a lot of trouble, we have come up with these rules for interplayer conduct, for bringing up grievances, and for gameplay.

A. God-Moding

What is God-Moding? The best definition I have been able to find of God-Moding can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godmoding. Please read this thoroughlly, as it describes just about all the kinds of God-Moding you can do on Dark Falls. God-Moding is an offense that is worthy of finding you on the OOE List.

B. Whining (Want some cheese with that?)

There is nothing I hate worse than a whiner. If you're going to whine to me, you'd better have one damn good reason, or you'd better be joking. I'm way too sick to deal with it. I may be more lenient with whining than I am with other things, since I do tend to do a bit of it myself when I'm feeling worse than normal, but you keep whining at me about another player, you'd better have logs to back up your complaints, or when I start getting tired of the whining (it could be the first time, it could be the fiftieth. You never know... Best not to try your luck) you'll end up on the OOE list.

C. Taking IC Comments/Posts as Personal, OOC Insults

When you are reading a post where the characters are in character, and one character shows a dislike of your character, that does not mean that the player dislikes you. Said player might have other characters who love your character, but they are wanting the challenge of playing characters that do not share the same viewpoint. I encourage such gaming, and in fact, I applaud and commend it. What I do not commend, applaud, or encourage is when a player decides that an in-character slight is meant as an out-of-character dig towards them. It rarely is, and I do not want to deal with babysitting people who start up fights like this. Please, if you're going to do something of this sort, make sure your stories are straight, and make sure you have logs to back it up... or the OOE list will be calling your name.

V. Fun, and Its Role In This Game

We are all here to have fun. If you're not having fun.... then why are you here? :) HAVE FUN!   :-D

The OOE List

The Order of Execution, or OOE, List is what you land on if you break the rules repeatedly. It progresses as follows:
  1. First offense (or in some cases, multiple minor offenses): Verbal warning
  2. Second Offense (You've Annoyed Us): Chain-and-Cross-Wrapped Coffin/Silver Cage
(Consists of a Written Warning and Two (2) Months' Probation)
  3. Third Offense (You've Screwed The Pooch): Council's Notice/Lycan Oubliette
                  (Consists of a 2nd Written Warning & Six (6) month's Probation)
  4. Fourth Offense (Kiss Your Ass Goodbye): Order of Execution
(Expulsion from sim with no opportunity for return for six months.)
(Upon Second Expulsion, there is no opportunity for return, period.)

Just as a side note: The rating of the sim (MA) means Mature Audiences. That means that there will be graphic violence and graphic sex. Nobody under the age of 18 is allowed, and I prefer players be over 21. This does NOT mean that graphic violence and sex for the sake of themselves are encouraged, but for the sake of the storyline, they are allowed. This sim is based on a horror genre. There will be horror situations. It's just part of the world. But let's not make it all doom and gloom. That would get old real fast.
