The Acclamator-class is best noted for being the forerunner to the famous
Imperator-class. It entered service in the beginning of the Clone Wars. One
new aspect for a capital ship was that the Acclamator-class could move
through planetary atmospheres as well as the vacuum of deep space. This
meant that separate dropships were not required, and it could deploy its
troops in under two minutes. It was also equipped with the fastest
hyperdrives available. Though it does not have the firepower to be a
frontline warship in the imperial era, the Acclamator was nevertheless
distinguished as the first ship capable of carrying out a Base Delta Zero
order with its missiles - terminating all life on a planet without
survivors, something never seen in the Old Republic until the onset of the
Clone Wars (Older records speak of similar events during special
circumstances during the Sith wars). So effective and impressive were the
Acclamators that many leading shipbuilders began incorporating similar
concepts into their own fleets. Rendili Stardrive followed a few short years
later with the development of their historic Victory-class Star Destroyer.

The 700 meter long Acclamator-class assault ship carries
thousands of Galactic Republic Clonetroopers into battle. They
possess heavy armaments - including 12 heavy turbolaser emplacements
similar to the type found on Imperial Star Destroyers and can also
serve as Star Frigates to support their landing groups. Eighty LAAT
gunships were carried to insert personnel or cargo to a battlezone.
In their first engagement, the Battle of Geonosis, the
Acclamator-class performed admirably, shooting down or capturing
many of the Trade Federation's ring_shaped battleships while
delivering legions of Clonetroopers to the battlefield. The ships
would see many battles in both the Clone Wars and the Galactic Civil
War. Descendants of the Acclamator-class - including the
Victory Star Destroyers and their successors, the Imperial Star
Destroyers - would soldier on throughout the 20-year Galactic Civil
War, fighting alongside their predecessors.
There appears to have been several variants of the Acclamator
dedicated for combat rather than planetary assault. One example may
the Rand Ecliptic, which had two docking bays that had
openings on both port and starboard. There was no large
downward-facing hanger bay as seen on the Acclamator, but
there were large retractable loading ramps in order for the
clonetroopers to board.
